While organizing events in Japan, I realized that there are so many people who already have more than a beginner-level interest in Korean. According to a paper presented at the International Society of Korean Language and Culture, 78% of Korean learners in Japan considered themselves at least intermediate, and 92% said they wanted speaking assessment. TOPIK applicants continue to grow, and the number of Japanese students studying in Korea increased by 79% in 2025, showing that interest is turning into real action. For learners ready to move beyond the basics and challenge themselves in real situations, I wanted to deliver real Korean, including the expressions people actually use.

While studying film in Japan, I often thought about building an app that could ease the discomfort people feel when learning a language through the power of visual content. With Malang, I want to make those frustrating moments of language learning feel a little softer.
